Taiwan to Consolidate Autonomous Driving in Public Transportation by 2020
December 27, 2017

The Taiwan government announced that it will have a new round of project to include autonomous driving in public transportation, aside from smart medicine and IoT (Internet of Things), the Liberty Times Net reported on December 27. This new round of project categorized under the Asia Silicon Valley's smart city plan is designed to include bus and shuttle services that serve the general public in residential communities, industrial parks, and amusement parks across Taiwan. The Asia Silicon Valley Development Plan has a subsidiary budget of NT$3.6 billion (USD 120 million), 40% of which reportedly will be given to the 11 selected applications out of 45, including an IoT-based data platform application filed jointly by ASUS, Hsinchu municipal government, Show Chwan Memorial Hospital, and National Taiwan University. In addition, these applications will then enter POC (Proof of Concept) in January 2018 and only those passed can enter the second phase for commercialization.
